Studied at a secondary glassmaking school in Železný Brod and continued at the Applied Arts University in Prague under professor Kaplický. During his studies he implemented several interesting proposals of pressed glass. It is interesting that today Schmid is known more as an actor and the founder of the Ypsilon theater then a glass designer.

Jana Schmid designs appeared also at the lot Exhibition of pressed glass - CZECH PRESSED GLASS, which took place in 1972 in Gottwaldov.
